Semifinal Round Delivers Top 2 Rated Liga MX Matches This Season on Any Network Regardless of Language
Leg One of America-UNAM Outperforms TNT’s NBA Doubleheader by Nearly Triple-Digits in Total Viewers 2+ and Adults 18-49
NEW YORK – December 12, 2018 – Liga MX action has heated up on Univision as the network’s presentation of the Apertura 2018 semifinals averaged 1.6 million Total Viewers 2+ and 812,000 Adults 18-49 in primetime and delivered the two most-watched Liga MX matches of the season on any network.
Kicking-off Thursday, December 6 at 10 p.m. ET on Univision, simulcast on Univision Deportes Network, the first leg of the semifinal featuring America vs. UNAM was the highest-rated Liga MX match of the season, regardless of language, and the top-rated club soccer match since Toluca-Santos (also on Univision) in May. The two-hour match averaged 1.8 million Total Viewers 2+, peaking in the 11:30-11:45 p.m. quarter-hour with 2 million Total Viewers 2+. The broadcast averaged 948,000 Adults 18-49. The delivery bested TNT’s broadcast of NBA double-header Knicks-Celtics and Rockets-Jazz across all key demos including Total Viewers 2+ (91%) and Adults 18-49 (86%). Among other competition, America-UNAM was more watched among Adults 18-49 than popular programs “Great American Baking Show” (ABC), “S.W.A.T.” (CBS), “Will & Grace” (NBC), and “Jersey Shore: Family Vacay” (MTV).
Cruz Azul vs. Monterrey, airing Saturday, December 8 from 8-10 p.m ET. on Univision and simulcast on UDN, delivered 1.5 million Total Viewers 2+ and 690,000 Adults 18-49. The match peaked in the 9:45-10 p.m. quarter-hour with 1.8 million Total Viewers Total Viewers 2+.
The second and final leg of America-UNAM broadcast on Univision, simulcast on UDN, Sunday, December 9 at 8 p.m ET. The highly anticipated series conclusion became the second most-watched Liga MX match of the season on any network. Sunday’s telecast averaged 1.8 million Total Viewers 2+ and 944,00 Adults 18-49, while the telecast peaked in the 8:15-8:30 p.m. quarter-hour delivering 2 million Total Viewers 2+.
The Liga MX Gran Final featuring Club America-Cruz Azul begins Thursday, December 13 with coverage starting on UDN at 8:30 p.m. ET and on Univision at 9 p.m. ET. Coverage for the second leg will get underway Sunday, December 16 at 6:30 p.m. ET on UDN and 7 p.m. ET on Univision.
