WHAT:
Univision News’ award-winning primetime newsmagazine “Aquí y Ahora” (Here and Now) presents the first Spanish-language interview granted by Anthony Borges, the 15-year old student who saved 20 schoolmates during the Parkland, Florida tragedy and was shot five times by the gunman. Univision was also the first media outlet, regardless of language, to be invited to the Borges home for an exclusive interview after Anthony was released from the hospital on April 4.
“Aquí y Ahora” co-host Teresa Rodríguez sat down with Anthony, his father, and his attorney for a gripping conversation about the events of that terrible afternoon and Anthony’s heroic actions. They also gave details about his background, life, and dreams, and discuss his difficult recovery process, which is still far from over. Additionally, they revealed what legal actions they are taking to hopefully help prevent other mass school shootings from happening.
The teenager, who does not consider himself a hero, expressed to Rodríguez that he only did “what I could, what I had to: save others.” He also describes his thoughts and feelings as he saw the gunman face to face before getting shot.
The two-segment interview is titled “Hombre de Acero” (Iron Man), based on the nickname given to Anthony by his friends and family after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School incident that left 17 people dead. During the shooting rampage, Anthony used his own body as a shield to block the door of a classroom where 20 students were hiding. He was shot five times in the abdomen, legs, and back while trying to protect the other students. Anthony was hospitalized for six weeks and underwent nine surgeries.
Born in Venezuela, Anthony Borges moved to Miami with his family three years ago.

Univision también es el primer medio de comunicación, en cualquier idioma, que ha sido invitado a la casa de los Borges para una entrevista exclusiva después de que Anthony fue dado de alta del hospital el 4 de abril.
Teresa Rodríguez, copresentadora de “Aquí y Ahora”, se reunió con Anthony, su padre y su abogado para sostener una impactante conversación sobre los sucesos de aquella tarde aterradora y las acciones heroicas del joven. También revelan detalles de los antecedentes, la vida y los sueños de Anthony, y relatan su difícil proceso de recuperación, el cual todavía está muy lejos de terminar. La entrevista de dos segmentos se titula “Hombre de Acero” por el apodo que los familiares y amigos de Anthony le pusieron después del tiroteo que dejó 17 muertos en la secundaria Marjory Stoneman Douglas. Durante la masacre, Anthony usó su propio cuerpo como escudo para bloquear la puerta de un salón de clases donde se escondían alrededor de 20 alumnos. Recibió cinco disparos en el abdomen, las piernas y la espalda mientras trataba de proteger a los demás. Estuvo hospitalizado seis semanas y fue sometido a nueve cirugías.
