Univision Network Belts Out Another Hit with the Premiere of Singing Talent Competition “La Reina de la Canción” (The Queen of Song) Reaching 3.5 Million Total Viewers 2+

Emotion-Packed Reality Series Premiere Out-Delivers Closest Spanish-Language Competitor During the 8 p.m. Hour and for the Entire Night by Double-Digit Margins Across Key Demos on Monday


NEW YORK – APRIL 19, 2017 – Univision Network’s new reality series “La Reina de la Canción” (The Queen of Song) hit the stage Monday night averaging 1.7 million Total Viewers 2+, 847,000 Adults 18-49, 438,000 Adults 18-34 and 553,000 Persons 12-34 and made it the No. 1 Spanish-language network during the 8pm hour, out-delivering its closest competitor by double-digit advantages among Total Viewers 2+ (+28%), Adults 18-49 (+34%), Adults 18-34 (+68%) and Persons 12-34 (+66%). Univision also finished as the No. 3 broadcast network, regardless of language, in the time period and for the entire night, ahead of CBS, FOX and CW among Adults 18-34 and Persons 12-34. Additionally, Monday’s debut positioned Univision as the No. 1 Spanish-language network for the entire night, outperforming its closest competitor by double-digit margins among Total Viewers 2+ (+24% adv.), Adults 18-49 (+11% adv.), Adults 18-34 (+26% adv.) and Persons 12-34 (+27% adv.).

“The successful premiere of our latest musical reality series proves that Univision, as the No. 1 Spanish-language network, continues to capture our audience’s attention, delivering programs the whole family enjoys and that resonates with them,” said Lourdes Diaz, president of Entertainment. “Our goal from the start with ‘La Reina de la Canción’ has been to celebrate women across all sectors of life who are following their dreams and aspirations, and we look forward to seeing how the series unfolds.”

The emotion-packed premiere telecast of “La Reina de la Canción” reached 3.5 million Total Viewers 2+ who tuned in to all or part of the one-hour broadcast. The reality singing talent competition increased its audience in the last half-hour compared to the first half-hour among Total Viewers 2+ (+5%), Adults 18-49 (+7%), Adults 18-34 (+14%) and Persons 12-34 (+11%). On Monday, “La Reina de la Canción” was also the third most-watched program on broadcast television with more Adult 18-34 and Person 12-34 viewers than the entire original lineups on CBS (“Kevin Can Wait,” “Man With a Plan,” “Superior Donuts,” “2 Broke Girls” and “Scorpion”) and FOX (“24: Legacy” and “APB”) as well as the first-run episodes of ABC’s “Quantico” and NBC’s “Taken.”

Additionally, “La Reina de la Canción” averaged more Hispanic viewers than the combined audience of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” and NBC’s “The Voice” on this night among Total Viewers 2+ (+24%) and Adults 18-49 (+67%), including two times more Adults 18-34 and Persons 12-34.

More than a talent competition, Univision Network’s new program, “La Reina de la Canción” (The Queen of Song), sets off to discover the next female Mexican Regional music superstar while celebrating the myriad accomplishments of Latina women in the U.S. Airing Monday through Thursday at 8 p.m. ET/PT (7 p.m. Central), the reality series is hosted by popular Univision personality Alejandra Espinoza and marks the return of Mexican superstar actress and recording artist Lucero to the network’s screen in the role of Main Judge. Adding to the fun is popular Univision radio personality and correspondent for “El Gordo y La Flaca,” Evelyn Sicarios, who serves as the Social Media Reporter throughout the competition.
