Toluca to face off against Querétaro while América will take on Chivas in Copa MX semifinal action live on UDN
All-star team of sports journalists to provide comprehensive live coverage of MLS Knockout rounds on UniMás and UDN
MIAMI, FL – OCTOBER 26, 2016 – Univision Deportes’ unparalleled team of sports journalists is gearing up to provide three days of comprehensive coverage of playoff action in North America’s top two pro soccer leagues: Copa MX and MLS. Univision Deportes, the multimedia sports division of Univision Communications Inc. (UCI) that includes UDN, the No. 1 Spanish-language cable sports network, will cover Copa MX Apertura 2016 playoff matches on October 25 and 26, as well as the MLS knockout round action with live broadcasts of four matches on October 26 and 27.
UDN’s soccer experts provided pre-game insights, play-by-play coverage and post-match analysis of Copa MX playoff matches on Tuesday, October 25 and Wednesday, October 26. Coverage begins both nights at 6:00 p.m. ET with “Locura Deportiva,” followed by back-to-back editions of “Univision Deportes Fútbol Club.” Up next is “Fútbol Central”, followed by live coverage of the matches at 9:55 p.m. ET.
On Tuesday, the Gallos Blancos of Querétaro take on Toluca. On Wednesday, fans will once again take sides in el Súper Clásico, the biggest rivalry in Mexican fútbol, as Ricardo La Volpe’s América faces off against Chivas of Guadalajara, live from Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. Luis Omar Tapia and Pablo Ramirez will narrate both matches and will be joined by Enrique Borja who will provide commentary. Additionally, retired Mexican forward Nestor de la Torre, who played for Chivas and was also its club president, will be a guest commentator for the Súper Clásico. Both matches will be followed by “Contacto Deportivo” at midnight ET and “Línea de Cuatro” at 1:00 a.m. ET. Lindsay Casinelli will be hosting both shows, live directly from Mexico.
UniMás coverage of the MLS knockout rounds will get underway with a special Wednesday edition of “La Barra” at 7:00 p.m. ET. At 7:30 p.m., the UniMás team will bring viewers the action from BMO Field in Toronto, Canada as Philadelphia Union takes on Toronto F.C. Jose Luis Lopez Salido and Diego Balado will be narrating and Ana Caty Hernandez will be reporting from the field. Following the game, “Fútbol Central” will provide highlights and expert analysis. “Fútbol Central” will be followed by the night’s second matchup, as L.A. Galaxy goes up against Real Salt Lake at 10:30 p.m. ET at StubHub Center in Carson, California. Raul Guzman and Marcelo Balboa will be providing commentary with Xavier Sol reporting live from the field.
On Thursday, October 26, UniMás coverage is joined by UDN. “Fútbol Central” will get things underway at 7:00 p.m. ET. At 7:30 p.m., the U.S.-Canada soccer rivalry continues, as D.C. United takes on Montreal. Providing commentary for the match will be Jose Luis Lopez Salido, Diego Balado and Ana Caty Hernandez will be on-field. “Fútbol Central” returns after the match, followed at 10:00 p.m. ET by Sporting KC against the Seattle Sounders live from CenturyLink Field in Seattle. Raul Guzman and Marcelo Balboa will be providing commentary for the match.
