WHAT: For the second consecutive year,Univision News and Fusion have partnered with the World Economic Forum to host an exclusive panel discussion featuring distinguished international figures. This year’s session will present three global science leaders and three Nobel laureates. It will take place on Saturday, January 24 during the WEF’s 2015 annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
“The Future of Science” will explore the current state and future of global science, focusing on key issues that include:
- How science is addressing major global challenges such as climate change and chronic diseases
- Overview of inspiring big science today – from unlocking the mysteries of the brain to exploring the cosmos
- What to expect from the scientific world in 2015
WHO: On the panel:
Dr. Francis Collins, Director, U.S. National Institutes of Health – Formerly the director of the Human Genome Project, Dr. Collins leads cutting-edge research devoted to better understanding the intricacies of the human brain.
Dr. France Cordova, Director of the U.S. National Science Foundation – The first woman Chief Scientist at NASA now heads this independent government agency dedicated to advancing scientific research.
Prof. Jean Pierre Bourguignon, President, European Research Council – An award-winning mathematician, Prof. Bourguignon is responsible for nearly €14 billion in European funding for science projects.
Prof. Mario Molina, 1995 Nobel Prize in Chemistry – Mexico’s first Nobel laureate is the current climate advisor to Mexico’s President Enrique Peña Nieto.
Prof. Konstantin Novoselov, 2010 Nobel Prize for Physics – His discovery of graphene, the thinnest material known to mankind and about 200 times stronger than steel, promises a true revolution in the field of electronics. This year, a National Graphene Institute will open at the University of Manchester in the UK, with Prof. Novoselov at its helm.
Prof. Brian Schmidt, 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics – Currently an astrophysicist at the Australian National University Mount Stromlo Observatory, Prof. Schmidt received the Nobel Prize for the discovery of the accelerating expansion of the universe.

Este año, el Instituto Nacional del Grafeno abrirá en la Universidad de Manchester en el Reino Unido, dirigido por el Prof. Novoselov.
