Produ: Univision Los Angeles Expands Local Weather Coverage

By: Staff

Univision Los Angeles announced that Yara Lasanta joins Noticias Univision 34’s weekday evening newscasts as the station’s Chief Meteorologist.

In this role, Lasanta will oversee the expansion of Univision Los Angeles’ weather and climate reporting capabilities, including building out a team of meteorologists and elevating the weather content on the station’s digital and social media platforms alongside Marco Flores, VP of News, Univision Los Angeles. The move is part of a broader effort by Univision to reinvest in its local newsrooms and elevate its local news offerings across the country.

Lasanta joins the 6pm and 11pm weekday evening newscasts, which are co-anchored by León Krauze and Andrea González alongside entertainment correspondent Stephanie Bradford and sports reporter Diana Alvarado. Additionally, she will contribute to the station’s community empowerment efforts through educational initiatives on meteorology and climate issues, with the goal of exposing more Hispanic young people to careers in STEM.

“We are pleased to welcome the only meteorologist on Spanish-language television in Los Angeles to Univision 34. As an Emmy award-winning journalist who is dedicated to serving her community, Yara will enhance our weather coverage by going beyond forecasts and breaking news to also provide our audience with educational stories on climate issues affecting our state and region,” said Marco Flores, VP of News, Univision Los Angeles.

“Univision 34 is a vital news resource for the Latino community in the greater L.A. area, and I look forward to keeping our audience informed about the daily weather news they need to know on-air, on their mobile devices and in-person through community outreach,” said Lasanta.
