Simon Cowell is Learning Spanish for Univision’s New Show “La Banda”, Posts E! Online

Simon Cowell Will Soon Be Making Cutting Remarks in Two Languages—He’s Learning Spanish!

By Natalie Finn

Simon Cowell is going in una dirección nueva!

In case you were wondering why the acerbic Englishman tweeted in Spanish yesterday, the X Factor judge and original One Direction mastermind has a new show, La Banda, through which he’ll be putting together a new Latin boy band.

“Me complace anunciar que las audiciones para formar parte del nuevo boyband latino están abiertas. ¡Inscríbete ya! http://labandaoficial.com,” he announced the beginning of auditions to be Syco Entertainment, Sony Music and Univision’s next hot young things.

Figuring it be best if Cowell can communicate freely and effectively with soon-to-be discovered talent, he has turned to that time-old method of language learning: Rosetta Stone!

First lesson: How do you say, “I’m not being rude.” Or, “that sounded like a cat on a roof caught in a lightning storm.”

Auditions are open to boys over the age of 14 who live in the United States or Puerto Rico. The winners of La Banda, which will premiere on Univision this September, will score a contract with Cowell’s U.K.-based Syco Music and Sony Music Latin.

Their Syco label mates will include One Direction, Fifth Harmony, Susan Boyle, Il Divo, Jackie Evancho and the most recent winners of the U.S. version of The X Factor, Alex & Sierra.

And perhaps if Simon takes to Spanish, he’ll pass it on to son Eric! The nearly year-old boy is already such a chip off the old block—how great if they can one day trade zingers in two languages!
