Weeknight Programming Featuring “Jesus,” “Mi Familia Tiene Mas Familia” and “Amar A Muerte” Teams With Live Midterm Elections Coverage to Lead Univision To Double-Digit Wins Over Telemundo Across All Key Demos
Univision Broadcast Prime Highlights – Week of November 5, 2018 to November 11, 2018
For the entire week, Univision finished as the fifth most-watched broadcast network during primetime, ahead of The CW with 1.4 million Total Viewers 2+, 566,000 Adults 18-49 and 225,000 Adults 18-34.
Univision ranked as the No. 1 Spanish-language network in primetime for the second consecutive week with double-digit audience advantages over Telemundo among Total Viewers 2+ (+39% adv.), Adults 18-49 (+29% adv.) and Adults 18-34 (+20% adv.).
In its premiere week, “Jesus” delivered 1.7 million Total Viewers 2+, 679,000 Adults 18-49 and 259,000 Adults 18-34 and positioned Univision as the No. 1 Spanish-language network during the weeknight 8pm hour, outperforming Telemundo’s “La Sultana” by +53% among Total Viewers 2+, +63% among Adults 18-49 and +57% among Adults 18-34. The epic series also averaged more Adult 18-34 viewers than first-run episodes of ABC’s “A Million Little Things,” “Fresh Off The Boat” and “Speechless;” CBS’ “Bull,” “Happy Together,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “Macgyver,” “Madam Secretary,” Magnum P.I.,” “Murphy Brown” and “S.W.A.T;” NBC’s “Blindspot” and “Midnight, Texas” as well as CW’s “All American,” “Arrow,” “Charmed,” “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” “DCs Legends of Tomorrow,” “Dynasty,” “Legacies,” “Supergirl” and “Supernatural.”
Averaging more than half-a-million Adult 18-49 viewers, Univision’s “Mi Familia Tiene Mas Familia” (593,000) and “Amar A Muerte” (560,000) edged out Telemundo’s “Falsa Identidad” and “Señora Acero V” to rank as the No. 1 Spanish-language network network in the respective weeknight 9pm and 10pm hours. “Mi Familia Tiene Mas Familia” and “Amar A Muerte” also out-delivered CW’s entire original primetime line-up consisting of “All American,” “Arrow,” “Charmed,” “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” “DCs Legends of Tomorrow,” “Dynasty,” “Legacies,” “Riverdale,” “Supergirl” and “Supernatural” in the key Adult 18-49 demographic.
Univision’s special live coverage of the 2018 midterm elections, “Noticiero Univision Presenta: El Poder En Juego” attracted 1.5 million Total Viewers 2+, 619,000 Adults 18-49 and 262,000 Adults 18-34 on Tuesday night. It also delivered more Total Viewers 2+ (+64% adv.), Adults 18-49 (+60% adv.) and Adults 18-34 (+80% adv.) than Telemundo’s news special, “El Voto” head-to-head during the 9pm to 11pm time slot.
On Saturday night, “Sábado Futbolero” featuring the back-to-back Liga MX matchups of Leon vs. Guadalajara (Chivas) and Necaxa vs. Monterrey drove Univision to a first-place finish on Spanish-language television for the entire night, out-delivering Telemundo among Adults 18-49 (+3% adv.) and Total Viewers 2+ (+16% adv.). Preceded by Leon vs. Guadalajara (Chivas) which drew in 883,000 Total Viewers 2+, 380,000 Adults 18-49 and 157,000 Adults 18-34, Necaxa vs. Monterrey retained 82% of this overall lead-in audience with 725,000 Total Viewers 2+ and averaged more Adults 18-49 (+21% to 337,000) and Adults 18-34 (+58% to 145,000) to the network’s 10pm to 12am time slot from the comparable Saturday last year.
Univision captured the No. 1 Spanish-language network ranking on Sunday night with double-digit audience advantages over Telemundo among Total Viewers 2+ (+76% adv.), Adults 18-49 (+52% adv.) and Adults 18-34 (+19% adv.).
- “Aquí y Ahora” delivered 1.3 million Total Viewers 2+, 464,000 Adults 18-49 and 187,000 Adults 18-34, marking its highest-rated telecast in the current 2018/2019 season with the key 18 to 49 demographic.
- “Nuestra Belleza Latina” averaged 1.4 million Total Viewers 2+, 558,000 Adults 18-49 and 214,000 Adults 18-34 and made Univision the top-rated Spanish-language network during the Sunday 8pm to 10pm time slot, outperforming Telemundo by +68% among Total Viewers 2+, +41% among Adults 18-49 and +10% among Adults 18-34. With audience gains of +10% from the prior airing, the talent reality competition series also delivered more Adult 18-49 viewers than CW’s entire original primetime line-up consisting of “Supergirl” (+37% adv.) and “Charmed” (+51% adv.).
- “Crónicas” has outperformed Telemundo’s “Don Francisco Te Invita” head-to-head in the Sunday 10pm hour for the last six consecutive weeks among Total Viewers 2+ (1.1 million; +61% adv.) and Adults 18-49 (490,000; +84% adv.) as well as in the last four consecutive weeks among Adults 18-34 (163,000; +41% adv.).
