The debate will be held over two days on September 12 and 13 and will be broadcast on television and all Univision News digital platforms in Spanish

Univision News and ABC News will host the third debate in the Democratic presidential primary for candidates seeking to challenge Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) explained that the debate, which will be held in Houston, will be split into two sessions during prime time on September 12 and 13 in order to accommodate all the candidates. Univision News will broadcast it in Spanish and ABC News will broadcast it in English.
Additionally, it will be shown on the Univision News digital accounts: Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.
The debate rules
“As the nation’s most diverse city, Houston is the perfect place for the Democratic Party’s third debate,” said Tom Pérez, president of the DNC. “Lilke the people of Texas, our candidates come from all kinds of backgrounds, and are all united by their deeply held values,” he added.
Pérez said the intention is to hold up to 12 debates during the primary process in order to give greater exposure to the party’s base, as well as to allow the candidates to reach different media. He also stressed that they intend to reach as many voters as possible while also discussing the issues that affect citizens.
Currently, there are more than 20 Democratic candidates and the DNC has established a series of rules that qualify a candidate for participation in the debates in September and October.
- The applicants must have more than 2% support in at least four national polls or polls conducted in the early-voting states of Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and/or Nevada. The list of polls that will be considered is: Associated Press, ABC News, CBS News, CNN, Des Moines Register, Fox News, Monmouth University, NBC News, New York Times, National Public Radio (NPR), Quinnipiac University, University of New Hampshire, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Washington Post and Winthrop University. The surveys must have been published between June 28 and August 28, 2019.
- The candidates must also have raised funds from at least 130,000 individual donors. In addition, they must show the support of 400 unique donors per state in at least 20 states. The data must be sent by the campaign treasurer for each candidate and donations must have been made before 11:59 p.m. on August 28, 2019. Finally, the certification of the contributions must be endorsed by ActBlue or NGP VAN, two tools used by the Democratic Party to monitor donations.

Univision Noticias y la cadena ABC News acogerán el tercer debate de los precandidatos demócratas que buscan enfrentar a Donald Trump y llegar a la Casa Blanca en 2020
El Comité Nacional Demócrata (DNC) indicó que el debate se celebrará en Houston en dos tandas durante los días 12 y 13 de septiembre en horario de máxima audiencia. Univision Noticias lo transmitirá en español y ABC News en inglés.
Además, será emitido en las cuentas digitales de Univision Noticias: Facebook, YouTube y Twitter.
El lugar, el formato y los moderadores serán anunciados próximamente.
Las condiciones para los precandidatos
Tom Pérez, presidente del DNC, recordó que la intención de celebrar hasta 12 debates durante el proceso de primarias busca dar un mayor protagonismo a las bases del partido, así como llevar a los precandidatos a diferentes medios de comunicación. Asimismo, subrayó que pretenden alcanzar el mayor número de votantes posible a la vez que discuten sobre los temas que afectan a los ciudadanos.
En la actualidad, hay más de 20 precandidatos demócratas, por lo que desde el DNC se establecieron una serie de normas para poder participar en los debates de septiembre y octubre.
- El aspirante debe tener más de un 2% de apoyo en al menos cuatro encuestas nacionales o encuestas realizadas en los estados de Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina y/o Nevada, que son los primeros en votar. La lista de sondeos que se tendrá en cuenta es: Associated Press, ABC News, CBS News, CNN, Des Moines Register, Fox News, Monmouth University, NBC News, New York Times, National Public Radio (NPR), Quinnipiac University, University of New Hampshire, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Washington Post y Winthrop University. Las encuestas deberán haber sido publicadas entre el 28 de junio y el 28 de agosto de 2019.
- Deben haber conseguido una recaudación de fondos de al menos 130,000 donantes. Además, tiene que demostrar que consiguió el apoyo de 400 donantes únicos por estado en al menos 20 estados. Los datos deben ser enviados por el tesorero de campaña de cada candidato y las donaciones deben haberse realizado antes de las 11:59 pm del 28 de agosto de 2019. Finalmente, la certificación de los aportes deber estar avalada por ActBlue o NGP VAN, dos herramientas utilizadas por el Partido Demócrata para fiscalizar las donaciones.
