El Chapo Season 3 Wraps Up, Reaches 2 Million Viewers Who Tuned into All or Part of the Series Finale

One-Hour Episode Drives Univision Network with Young Adult 18-34 Audience, Finishing as No. 3 Broadcaster, Ahead of CBS and NBC, in the 10 p.m. Hour

NEW YORK – JULY 27, 2018 – The third season of Univision Network’s breakout drama series “El Chapo” finished strong, reaching two million viewers that tuned in to all or part of the series finale, and averaging 1.1 million Total Viewers 2+, 458,000 Adults 18-49 and 220,000 Adults 18-34 for the one-hour broadcast.

Co-produced by Story House Entertainment and Netflix, season three of “El Chapo” had its broadcast TV premiere July 9 on Univision and will be available on Netflix on a date to be announced.  The 13-episode third and final season followed the notorious drug lord from 2009 to 2017, as he loses his strength, his allies and ultimately his freedom.

The series created by Silvana Aguirre Zegarra and Carlos Contreras, produced by Daniel Posada and starring Marco de la O as El Chapo, drove strong viewership for Univision, which during the finale outperformed CBS and NBC among the young Adult 18-34 audience to be the No. 3 broadcast network, regardless of language, in the time-period.  In fact, the episode delivered 58% more viewers in the demo than a new episode of NBC original drama series “Reverie,” as well as more Adult 18-34 and 18-49 viewers than the entire line-up on The CW, which included the premiere of “Burden of Truth” as well as “The Originals.”

The program also grew Univision Network’s audience week-over-week during the hour, with the broadcaster up from the prior Wednesday among Total Viewers 2+ (+21%), Adults 18-49 (+8%) and Adults 18-34 (+13%).

“We are incredibly proud of the stories we told with ‘El Chapo,’ and how the ripped-from-the-headlines series resonated with younger audiences whose tastes in programming are more discerning than ever,” said Univision Network’s President & Chief Operating Officer Jessica Rodriguez. “With the second season of ‘La Piloto’ premiering on Sunday before moving to its regular 10 p.m. weeknight time, Univision will continue to build on this performance throughout the rest of the summer.”

In its full season three run on the Univision Network, “El Chapo” reached 9.1 million Total Viewers 2+ and delivered an average audience of 997,000 Total Viewers 2+, 459,000 Adults 18-49 and 196,000 Adults 18-34.
