Univision Noticias Kicks Off First Edition of “UNIVISIONARIOS” This Thursday, September 22

WASHINGTON, D.C. – SEPTEMBER 21, 2022 – On Thursday, September 22, Univision Noticias, the award-winning news division of TelevisaUnivision, will present the first edition of UNIVISIONARIOS.
UNIVISIONARIOS is a Univision Noticias initiative that celebrates Hispanic community leaders in the United States and how their contributions advance our community and the nation. An esteemed advisory board selected nine finalists, with our audience choosing one finalist in the MiUnivisionario category – voting ended on August 27 – that will ultimately be awarded $10,000 to the foundation of their choice as they continue to strive for a stronger community. The ten finalists will attend the UNIVISIONARIOS gala on September 22 in Washington, D.C.
In addition to the honorees, UNIVISIONARIOS will recognize the big personalities in the ICONOS category that have broken barriers with their voice, image, and positive actions. This year’s ICONO is DADDY YANKEE, who has left an important mark on the Hispanic community and its legacy.
Viewers can watch UNIVISIONARIOS live on September 22 at 8 p.m. ET on Univision. For more information, visit Univisionarios.com. The program will feature a Second Audio Program (SAP) for the visually impaired; the audio services will narrate every detail of the event, as it is happening on the screen. In addition to the SAP, UNIVISIONARIOS will include detailed closed captions in English and in Spanish. These accessibility enforcements make UNIVISIONARIOS the first live event on Hispanic television that is completely accessible to all audiences.
The gala will feature performances from top artists, participation from Univision Noticias anchors, journalists, and talent, and engagement from notable Hispanic community leaders. The full rundown of participants is below.

- TERESA RODRIGUEZ – Trailblazing journalist behind the UNIVISIONARIOS Rodriguez interviewed all the selected nominees and has a notable history as the first Latina journalist to host a national newscast in the United States.
- ALEJANDRA ESPINOZA – Model, TV presenter, and the first winner of Univision’s beauty contest, NUESTRA BELLEZA LATINA. Espinoza brings forth her experience as a Mexican immigrant succeeding in the United States, advocating for her community to thrive.
- ADRIÁN URIBE – actor, comedian, and host of TelevisaUnivision’s DE NOCHE PERO SIN SUEÑO.
OPENING ACT:
The esteemed and inspiring Hispanic voices will celebrate the legacies of Armando Manzanero, Juan Gabriel, Joan Sebastian, and Jenni Rivera.
- JOSS FAVELA – Award-winning songwriter and artist who brings forth Mexican folk traditional music such as banda and norteño. Favela was the youngest to win a Composer of the Year award from ASCAP and has been nominated for several LATIN GRAMMYs.
- AIDA CUEVAS – GRAMMY-award winning singer and actress, often coined as the “Queen of Ranchera Music.”
- JOSE MANUEL FIGUEROA – First-generation Mexican American singer and songwriter who makes Latin pop and regional Mexican music; he is the oldest son of JOAN SEBASTIAN, whose legacy in Hispanic music lives on.
- CHIQUIS RIVERA – First-generation Mexican American LATIN GRAMMY-award winning artist who launched her singing career in early 2014; she is the daughter of award-winning Mexican artist, JENNI RIVERA.

- MAU Y RICKY – Venezuelan Latin pop and reggaeton duo formed by singer-songwriter siblings, MAURICIO ALBERTO “MAU” REGLERO RODRIGUEZ AND RICARDO ANDRÉS REGLERO RODRIGUEZ, both sons of RICARDO MONTANER. The GRAMMY-nominated artists were chosen by YouTube Music as the only Hispanic artists to be part of “Artist on the Rise” in 2019.
- MARIACHI HERENCIA DE MEXICO – GRAMMY-nominated musical group of young musicians that have released highly acclaimed music honoring the historic tradition of mariachi music. The band members are CARLOS ROJAS, MELANIE JUÁREZ, RUBÉN NUÑEZ, ISAÍAS LÓPEZ, ARTURO GARZA, MARCO A. VILLELA, BRYANA MARTÍNEZ, IVÁN GARZA, LEONEL HERRERA, SAMUEL VILLEGAS, RAFAEL DÍAZ, JOSÉ GONZÁLEZ, CARLOS GONZÁLEZ, and FERNANDO LÓPEZ.
- PEDRO CAPÓ – GRAMMY-award-winning Puerto Rican singer known for his Latin pop, pop rock, and dance-pop discography.

- SEBASTIÁN YATRA – Colombian singer, songwriter, and actor known for his romantic lyricism with modern reggaeton influences.
- MALUMA — Colombian singer, and songwriter who is considered one of the best-selling Latin music artists.

- DADDY YANKEE – Puerto Rican rapper, singer, and composer, known as “King of Reggaeton.” In 2007, DADDY YANKEE became the spokesperson of the environmental organization “Yo Limpio a Puerto Rico” (I Clean Puerto Rico) and in 2017, he donated $100,000 to the Food Bank of Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. The donation provided food to nearly 9,000 families on the island. In addition to his work on Puerto Rico, Daddy Yankee has supported other countries, like the Dominican Republic. In both islands, he has established a soup kitchen, “Daddy’s House” where a large number of children and youth receive access to food. Further, the singer has developed an important alliance with the Habitat for Humanity foundation, where he has built houses for the Puerto Rican community.

- KATYA ECHAZARRETA – Electrical engineer, science communicator and civilian astronaut. Echazarreta is the first Mexican-born woman to travel into space.
- ORLANDO “EL DUQUE” HERNÁNDEZ – Former baseball pitcher from the New York Mets, Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago White Sox, and New York Yankees. Hernández was born in Cuba, where he played for Industriales of Havana in the Cuban National Series and on the Cuba national baseball team, where he was part of the gold-winning Olympic team at Barcelona in 1992.

UNIVISIONARIOS es una celebración de la excelencia hispana. La primera edición contará con una amplia gama de participantes inspiradores y talentosos. Míralo por Univision el 22 de septiembre a las 8 p.m.
WASHINGTON, DC – 21 DE SEPTIEMBRE DE 2022 – El jueves 22 de septiembre, Univision Noticias, la galardonada división de noticias de TelevisaUnivision , presentará la primera edición de UNIVISIONARIOS .
UNIVISIONARIOS es una iniciativa de Univision Noticias que celebra a los líderes de la comunidad hispana en los Estados Unidos y cómo sus contribuciones hacen avanzar a nuestra comunidad y la nación. Una junta asesora estimada seleccionó a nueve finalistas, y nuestra audiencia eligió a un finalista en la categoría MiUnivisionario (la votación finalizó el 27 de agosto) que finalmente recibirá $10,000 para la fundación de su elección mientras continúan luchando por una comunidad más fuerte.
