Univision Continues to Outperform Telemundo by Double-Digits in Primetime Among Total Viewers 2+, Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34
Univision Finished as the No. 1 Spanish-Language Network Across Key Demos and No. 3 Overall Broadcast Network, Ahead of CBS and NBC on Sunday Night Among Adults 18-34 with its Live Sports Coverage of the “2018 Clausura Liga MX Semi-Finals”
Univision Broadcast Prime Highlights – Week of May 7, 2018 to May 13, 2018
Last week, Univision ranked as the No. 1 Spanish-language network during primetime with double-digit audience advantages over Telemundo among Total Viewers 2+ (+24% adv.), Adults 18-49 (+11% adv.) and Adults 18-34 (+16% adv.), marking the twenty-seventh consecutive week that it occupied the top-ranked Spanish-language network position.
Univision also finished as the fifth most-watched broadcast network, ahead of CW with 1.4 million Total Viewers 2+, 618,000 Adults 18-49 and 267,000 Adults 18-34.
Univision out-delivered one or more of the English-language broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC or FOX) on four out of seven nights last week among Adults 18-34.
Averaging over half-a-million Adult 18-49 viewers, “El Rico y Lázaro” (589,000) and “Papá a Toda Madre” (579,000) positioned Univision as the No. 1 Spanish-language network, surpassing Telemundo by +46% and +23% during the respective weeknight 8pm and 9pm hours.
Univision’s “El Rico y Lázaro” (264,000) and “Papá a Toda Madre” (255,000) also delivered more Adult 18-34 viewers than the first-run episodes of ABC’s “Designated Survivor,” “For The People,” “Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Once Upon A Time,” “Quantico” and “The Crossing;” CBS’ “Elementary,” “Ransom” and “Superior Donuts;” NBC’s “Blindspot;” as well as CW’s “Arrow,” “Dynasty,” “iZombie,” “Life Sentence,” “Riverdale,” “Supergirl,” “Supernatural,” “The Hundred” and “The Originals.”
On Thursday night, Univision’s special live coverage of the “2018 Clausura Liga MX Semi-Finals” between Santos and America drew in 1.5 million Total Viewers 2+, 804,000 Adults 18-49 and 338,000 Adults 18-34 while also made it the No. 1 Spanish-language network for the entire night with double-digit audience advantages over Telemundo among both the key 18 to 49 (+13% adv.) and 18 to 34 (+10% adv.) demographics. The sports event also ranked within the top 10 most-watched programs on all of broadcast television with more Adult 18-34 viewers than the entire original line-ups on FOX (“Gotham” and “Showtime at the Apollo”) and CW (“Supernatural” and “Arrow”) as well as the first-run episodes of ABC’s “Quantico” and CBS’ “S.W.A.T.”
Saturday night’s three-hour airing of “Rosa de Guadalupe” delivered an average audience of 913,000 Total Viewers 2+, 367,000 Adults 18-49 and 136,000 Adults 18-34 while also drove Univision to a first-place finish on Spanish-language TV with double-digit audience advantages of +14% over Telemundo in the key 18 to 49 viewers. Preceded by the episode titled ‘Búsqueda’ which attracted 890,000 Total Viewers 2+, 345,000 Adults 18-49 and 130,000 Adults 18-34, the 10pm telecast titled ‘Nueva Luz’ retained and increased its overall lead-in audience by +8% with 958,000 Total Viewers 2+ while also averaged more Adults 18-49 (+39% to 412,000) and Adults 18-34 (+31% to 147,000) from the comparable airing of the prior Saturday.
With its live coverage of the “2018 Clausura Liga MX Semi-Finals” between America and Santos, Univision captured the No. 3 broadcast network ranking, ahead of CBS and NBC on Sunday night among Adults 18-34. Averaging 2.2 million Total Viewers 2+, 1.2 million Adults 18-49 and 552,000 Adults 18-34, the soccer match positioned Univision as the No. 1 Spanish-language network for the entire night with doubled the audience levels of Telemundo. It also ranked as the second and fourth most-watched program on all of broadcast television on Sunday night among Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49, respectively.
Univision’s “Crónicas” delivered 1.0 million Total Viewers 2+ with week-to-week audience gains among Adults 18-49 (+3% to 472,000) and Adults 18-34 (+13% to 193,000) as well as propelled it to the No. 1 Spanish-language network ranking during the Sunday 10pm hour, outperforming Telemundo’s “Don Francisco Te Invita” by +33% among Total Viewers 2+, +64% among Adults 18-49 and +43% among Adults 18-34.
