WHAT: KWEX 41 Univision San Antonio will celebrate its 60th Anniversary with a two-day event in San Antonio, Texas. The celebration will kick-off with a VIP Reception and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Grand Re-Opening of its downtown studio at the Historic Market Square on Friday, June 26, 2015 followed by a community event on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Trader’s Village.
State Representative Trey Martinez Fischer will bestow a proclamation for the station’s 60 years of service to the San Antonio community and will be joined by community leaders, elected officials and some of Univision’s popular on-air personalities. Carlos Calderon, co-host of Sal y Pimienta (Salt and Pepper), Maria Antonieta Collins, senior correspondent of Noticiero Univision, Tony Dandrades reporter of Primer Impacto (First Impact), Lili Estefan, co-host of El Gordo y La Flaca (The Scoop and The Skinny), Arantxa Loizaga, news anchor of the weekend evening edition of Noticiero Univision, and co-host Alan Tacher and reporter Orlando Segura of Despierta América (Wake Up America), and Host of the popular syndicated radio show, “El Show de Raul Brindis” (The Raul Brindis Show), Raul Brindis, will be in attendance throughout the two-day celebration. They will be joined by KWEX’s local on-air personalities including News Anchors Jorge Nunez, Brenda Jimenez and Myrna Salas, Senior Reporters Antonio Guillen and Monica Navarro, Weather Anchor Prissila Sanchez, Reporter Keyhla Calderon, Video Journalists Anuar Revuelta and Mariana Veraza, Morning Weather Traffic Reporter Alejandra Becerra, Sports Anchor Rafael Caederera and Sports Video Journalist Francisco “Paco” Fuentes.

KWEX 41 Univision San Antonio first broadcast was on June 10, 1955. It was the first, full-time, Spanish-language television station and first UHF channel in the continental U.S. Since then, the local TV station has been a pillar in the community and an integral force in shaping the television industry not only in San Antonio but across the nation. During its 60th anniversary celebration, Univision San Antonio will honor Emilio Nicolas Sr., one of the founding pioneers of Univision’s first station in San Antonio and recognize previous talent that have helped the success of Univision through the years, such as Martha Tijerina and Andi Morin among others. A list of Community leaders will include, Henry (Univision Board Member) and Mary Alice Cisneros, City Council, State elected official as well Congressman Lloyd Doggett. In addition, renowned artists Anel Flores and Luis Valdez will showcase the results of the Door to Opportunity project – transforming one of Univision’s doors from the original building into a piece of art to be displayed in one of the two KWEX Univision facilities. La celebración se iniciará con una recepción de dignatarios y ceremonia para la reinauguración de su estudio en el centro de la ciudad, en el Historic Market Square, el viernes, 26 de junio de 2015 seguidas por un evento comunitario el domingo, 28 de junio de 2015 en Trader’s Village.
El representante estatal de Texas, Trey Martinez Fischer, hará una proclamación por los 60 años de servicio del canal a la comunidad de San Antonio y estará acompañada por líderes comunitarios, funcionarios electos y algunos de los presentadores de televisión de Univision.
