Empowering Our Communities

Part of Univision’s DNA is to empower Hispanic America and a fundamental element of our efforts is connected to the critical work of nonprofit organizations, that day in and day out serve the different needs of our communities across the country.

With the idea of providing tools and resources to better serve the fastest-growing segment in the U.S., in April of this year Univision partnered with Hispanicize to launch the “Latino Social Media for Social Good” program. The unprecedented initiative consists of free social media and communications trainings for nonprofit organizations, and featured Univision’s local news teams as part of the workshop.

As a brand whose goal is to entertain, inform and empower, at Univision we are fully leveraging the power of social media and have embraced it to extend the reach of our efforts to engage our community. From entertainment to our unparalleled news coverage and community efforts, social media unequivocally plays a critical role with how we engage and serve our audiences. The results has been evident across many of our initiatives, including with our civic engagement campaign through the “Ya es Hora” coalition, and most recently, with Univision’s Es el momento education efforts. That’s why we knew that partnering with Hispanicize to hold these workshops would be invaluable for nonprofit organizations across several U.S. markets.

From Miami to New York and Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, San Antonio, San Diego and Washington, D.C. the workshops proved to be essential for the participating organizations’ future efforts. Attendees left with a wealth of knowledge, ready to tackle social media full force and leverage the communications tools to help them achieve their goals. Manny Ruiz, founder of Hispanicize, stated that the program is very rewarding because its practical and hands on approach, in after just a few hours, the training will help “nonprofit leaders improve the way they serve Latino communities.” In fact, as a result of the overwhelming positive feedback, Cristy Clavijo-Kish, CEO of Hispanicize, added that the organization’s site will feature a special section to continue assisting nonprofits with their social media outreach and campaigns.

They say practice makes perfect so don’t fear social media, embrace it – amplify your organization’s reach and the voice of Hispanics. For us, empowering our communities will continue to be a critical element of our mission and social media will play an important role in our efforts.
