Miami, January 9, 2026 – ViX, the world’s leading Spanish-language streaming service, premieres today TOROS NEZA, an original docuseries that revisits one of the most irreverent, controversial, and compelling chapters in Mexican soccer history. The five episode series will be available exclusively to ViX premium subscribers, with all episodes accessible from day one.
Set against the turbulent backdrop of Mexico in the 1990s a decade defined by political, economic, and social crises, as well as widespread public disillusionment TOROS NEZA uses soccer as a lens through which to explore the spirit of a nonconformist generation. Within this environment, a team emerged that defied conventions both on and off the field, becoming a powerful symbol of rebellion, popular identity, and contradiction.
The story begins in 1992, when a modest club from Nezahualcóyotl earned promotion to Mexico’s First Division. Led by a visionary businessman and driven by a volatile mix of veteran players, street-soccer talent, and iconic figures such as Antonio “El Turco” Mohamed, the team quickly began to disrupt the status quo of Mexican soccer. After a challenging start that left the club on the brink of relegation, the appointment of Carlos Reinoso as head coach marked a decisive turning point.
Featuring unforgettable personalities including Miguel “Piojo” Herrera, Pablo Larios, Colorado Lussenhoff, and later Pony Ruiz, Nidelson, and renowned strategist Manuel “Ojitos” Meza, Toros Neza became a team as charismatic as it was controversial capable of delivering emphatic victories or suffering crushing defeats. In doing so, it earned the distinction of becoming the nation’s “second favorite team.”
The series also revisits the summer of 1997, when Toros Neza mounted a historic campaign that carried them to the Mexican league final against Chivas de Guadalajara. What appeared to be the perfect conclusion to a fairy tale, ultimately culminated in a sporting tragedy that would leave a lasting mark on the club and its supporters.
“Toros Neza was not just a soccer team; it was a cultural statement,” said director Santiago Fábregas. “They represented a Mexico that dared to be different chaotic, creative, and defiant. This series examines what happens when sport becomes a space for political imagination and collective expression.”
TOROS NEZA is not only the story of a soccer team, but also the story of a country that dared to dream of being different. It is a compelling docuseries about identity, excess, hope, and disillusionment.

La serie llega en exclusiva a la plataforma con sus cinco episodios disponibles desde el primer día para los suscriptores del plan premium.
Ambientada en el México convulso de los años noventa marcados por crisis políticas, económicas sociales y un profundo desencanto colectivo, TOROS NEZA utiliza al fútbol como espejo de una generación inconforme. En ese contexto nace este equipo que desafió las reglas dentro y fuera de la cancha y se convirtió en símbolo de rebeldía, identidad popular y contradicción.
La historia comienza en 1992, cuando un modesto club de Nezahualcóyotl asciende a la Primera División. Bajo la dirección de un empresario visionario y con una mezcla explosiva de jugadores veteranos, talento del fútbol llanero y figuras como Antonio “El Turco” Mohamed, el equipo comenzó a sacudir los cimientos del balompié nacional. Tras un inicio complicado y al borde del descenso, la llegada de Carlos Reinoso al banquillo marcaría un punto de quiebre.
Con personajes inolvidables como Miguel “Piojo” Herrera, Pablo Larios, el Colorado Lussenhoff y más adelante el Pony Ruiz, Nidelson y el estratega Manuel “Ojitos” Meza, TOROS NEZA se transformó en un equipo tan carismático como polémico, un conjunto que jugaba al límite goleaba o era goleado, y que terminó convirtiéndose en el “segundo equipo” de todo el país.
También se mostrará lo sucedido en el verano de 1997, cuando Toros Neza protagoniza una campaña histórica que los lleva hasta la gran final del fútbol mexicano frente a Chivas de Guadalajara. Lo que parecía el cierre perfecto de un cuento improbable se enfrentaría, sin embargo, a una tragedia deportiva que marcaría para siempre al club y a sus aficionados.
“Toros Neza no fue solo un equipo de fútbol: fue una declaración cultural”, señala el director Santiago Fábregas. “Representaban a un México que se atrevía a ser distinto, caótico, creativo y desafiante. Esta serie habla de lo que ocurre cuando el deporte se convierte en un espacio de imaginación política y expresión colectiva”.
